Megan the Cuddling Turkey

Megan was rescued from the abusive factory farming industry, but not before she was debeaked and de-toed. Both these procedures are routine mutilations performed to prevent stress reactions caused by horrific crowding and confinement in the turkey industry. Somehow, despite the cruelty of her past, Megan has now become an affectionate and amazing cuddler. One of her all-time favorite people to kiss is volunteer intern Corinna. Megan enjoys her human companions and their affection so much, she runs to us every time we enter her barn, asking to be tickled at the base of her tail feathers, something many turkeys enjoy!

Lydia the Hugging Turkey

Every Thanksgiving, visitors flocked to Farm Sanctuary’s California shelter to receive a hug from Lydia. The famous “hugging turkey” would flap her wings and run toward guests. As visitors bent down, Lydia embraced them by pressing her chest against them and stretching her head and neck over their shoulders. Lydia brought much happiness to her visitors, and she enjoyed teaching people that turkeys need love too!
